Emo Rock, cool or uncool

Monday, August 29th, 2005

this is like shakespeare’s hamlet where the lead character asks the question, "to be or not to be", although the difference is this, "Emo rock, cool or uncool". i say it is. well some people think or should i say the real die hard RAKIZTAS that Emo rocK is simply a variation which came out from the border of the music genre which is "pathetically" and "stupidly" (if there is such a term) crappy. to think that Emo rock is actually a very sophisticated genre, wherein the lyrics is simply like a plain old alternative song, but if sung in the correct way, expressing it fully with your emotions, you realize that it is really a good form of music. take for instance Coheed and Cambria, instead of making songs that sounds too common to the avid listeners today, they changed the whole thing in order for it to sound different but still has the element and the essence of the old rock music to it. in other words they didn’t change the music, they revolutionize it, becoming something that is ought to be judged after you hear it rather than judging first before listening to it.

Dune Messiah

Monday, August 15th, 2005

The prophecies of the the Fremen natives of Arrakis had been fulfilled. the Lisan al-Gaib is true, and he’s the Kwizats Haderach, the person who is able to shift from one plane, to another, from the past, present, to the future. the hope of the planet is whithin his hands. but then for how long? Paul Atreides is a male Benne Gezzerit, who with his capabilities proved himself to be a worthy advesary to the Harkonnens, or perhaps even the whole Empire. his debut in Frank Herbert’s critically acclaimed best seller "Dune" came out as a prelude to his life in the desert planet. although he started out to be someone who is to be ignored in the story, he became the story himself. trials came to paul, the death of his father, Duke Leto Atreides, and the loss of his empire, but in the end he gained vengeance over the Harkonnens and smite the fist of power in front of the Emperor, showing the without the spice or melange, the guild will go blind, economy of the empire will fall. thus he said, "the spice must flow", or was it "the spice will not flow", that is if the Emperor and his subordinates should disobey his requests for the good of the empire. the death of his enemy, Baron Vladimmir Harkonnen, and his heir apparent, Feyd-Rautha Harkonnen, was only the beginning. there’s more to come. you ask me what will happen after Dune? read the book and you’ll know.

The Idiot Box

Wednesday, August 3rd, 2005

people now adays are often driven to madness due to the different forms of music.. i mean not because of the "noise", but the number of bands coming out of the woodwork just to sustain our hunger for it. let’s site an example, shall we? one is shadows fall, a band with more than just power in delivery, killer riffs and head smashing vocals, this band performs with such effort that even the crowd goes nuts. i mean real nuts. have you watched their performance at New England hardcore-metal festival? if you haven’t then too bad. although the only featured songs on the DVD were "crushing belial" and "idiot box", i’ve seen the crowd’s reaction.. they A engage to violence. ohh yeah, dont forget the weed. its good for you before listening to these tunes… one music, one heart, Amen.

Elric, the Eternal Champion

Tuesday, August 2nd, 2005

ok, so we all know that Elric is the white wolf, kinslayer, womanslayer, and the white-faced reaver, but then again it seems that his story wasn’t that complete…well for me. since his final battle with the forces of chaos, though he banished his patron demon, Arioch, back into the realms of darkness and the forces of law were able to create a new world of law, his story seemed disturbing. Elric is known as the Eternal Champion, a man who is drawn to different worlds, reincarnated to wield the black sword, and again fight the forces of chaos to attain peace and balance on Earth. but unlike his other reincarnation, Urlik Skarsol, Elric died after killing his companion Moonglum of Elwher. thus I ask, (and boy, do i want Mr. Moorcock to read this…) why the hell did Stormbringer turned itself against his wielder? was it his destiny to die unlike Urlik who lived after he brought the sword down on the Queen of the Golden Chalice? wish there was a definite explanation… ohh yeah.. Elric fans be wary, the movie is coming soon… Arioch, Xiombarg, and Mabelode be with you all… Chaos reigns supreme.

KillSwitch Engage

Monday, August 1st, 2005

KillSwitch Engage is one of the most promising, or let me correct that, one of the most astounding band that ever came out of Roadrunner records woodworks.. Although the issue regarding the change of vocalist is an old one, it is new to me, thanks to my source who happened to be my cousin, Jay RaKizta.. This progressive rock band came out as a band who infused the old with the new.. I.E.? screaming guitars mixed with melodic tunes? you know get the drift, kid. Anyway, sad to say they haven’t been introduced yet to the Philippine mainstream. Radio stations are still having a hard time deciding wether they should play their music, even their most sullen and current release, "’Til the End Of Heartache" which is the title of their new album and the title of their single which was included in the soundtrack of Resident Evil: Apocalypse. So music lovers, Gothes, Potheads, Idiots, and even (though i hate them so much) critics, fuck what you heard about the band if they say it’s bad or they sound horrible. For me, KillSwitch Engage is tops on my list when it comes to progressive bands who kicks ass. PERIOD.
